Gaming has brought families closer together for generations and helped people create meaningful friendships. From playing Mario Kart on your grandparents’ carpet with a little cousin watching to your first time dialing into an online voice chat with high school friends, we fondly reflect on the bonding moments video games gave to us.
We look back on those times with nostalgia, but when we truly think about it, did those forged friendships come easily? Or did we really have to work for them? Pro Gamer’s Guide to Making Friends tackles one of the most demanding challenges faced during childhood through fun adventures, empathy, and age-appropriate advice. It's the book that many children of the past, who always found it tough making friends wish they could've read.
Cuddles the Penguin feels left out of the fun! While Brian, Pauly the Parrot, and Cecelia the Cat have embarked on many adventures throughout The Brick City, Cuddles has been stuck at home, after being deemed too young to join the others. Feeling left out, Cuddles dreams of the day she can embark on her own adventures with a particular group of friends that many have already grown to love.
Realizing her sadness, Brian helps to guide Cuddles toward discovering friendship through the power of gaming. By traveling across Brick City’s many lands, the Pro Gamer’s Guide crew will understand what friendship means and how to position yourself toward success in fostering meaningful friendships with others.
The book will explore the characters that were introduced in Pro Gamers Guide to Healthy Habits (2022), and follow on from the online comic series that has led to the Pro Gamers Guide crew being a hit in many households, with people of all ages.
"While watching the neighborhood kids play outside, I wondered, “How could I meet people who share my interests?” Having a deep passion for gaming my entire life without anyone to share it with, I embarked on fantastical adventures from my living room.
I dreamed of playing Mario Party with friends but wondered, “What would I say? I’m worried I’ll mess this up… I don’t want to be alone again.”
Since those troubling times, I've built a community of passionate gamers who look out for each other. Playing together, sharing stories, and creating memories are the things I desired growing up.
For those who feel alone, like their passions don't have a place in this world, just know people accept you for who you are." - Brian Saviano, Author
